Choir News for 1/29

This week's news has lots of very important NEW information having to do with next week!  Please read carefully.

Principio/Illuminati Theory and Sight-reading Showcase

This week (1/29) at 10 a.m. Principio and Illuminati will be hosting a Theory and Sight-reading Showcase in the high school rehearsal room.  All family and friends are welcome to attend to take a look at what else the students are learning besides JUST the MUSIC.  The showcase will conclude by 10:30 a.m.

Change of Rehearsal Locations NEXT Week

Due to the Principio/Illuminati Showcase, all choirs will be switching rooms for the day next week.  Music Experience will be were Principio meets and vice versa.   Illuminati will meet where Bella Voce meets and vice versa.  All rehearsal times will remain the same.

Circle the State with Song

This SATURDAY is CTSWS.  Remember, all permission slips and CD listening forms MUST be completed in order to participate in Saturday's (1/26) CTSWS event at Bethany's First Church of the Nazarene.  Please take the north entrance when arriving.  Lunch and snacks are provided but students may want to bring a bottle of water.  Students should wear blue jeans/skirt, COHC choir shirt, and comfortable shoes.  They will receive their CTSWS t-shirt on the day of the performance.

Following the concert, students are free to keep their music, if they desire, or donate it to COHC.

Capital Day

This week we received our invitation to participate at the Homeschool Capital Day on February 12th.  This is indeed an honor and one we are excited to participate in.  Principio, Illuminati, and Bella Voce will be performing during and after the 2nd Floor Rally.  Attendance to this performance will be in lieu of our regular Tuesday rehearsal.  That said, Music Experience will not have a rehearsal or a performance on this day but we highly encourage all families to participate in the Capital Day events.  You can learn more about them here.

Although this is subject to change, depending on the final word from OCHEC, here is our current schedule for 2/12 at the State Capital.

10:30 a.m.  Meet on the 2nd floor of the rotunda area
11:00 a.m. Open the Rally with the singing of the National Anthem
12:00 p.m.  Close the Rally with the singing of Oklahoma.  A short mini-concert performed by Principio, Illuminati and Bella Voce to immediately follow the conclusion of the rally.
12:30 p.m.  Conclusion of COHC Capital Day Responsibilities

Please plan now to arrive in plenty of time to park on the South or East side of the Capital and go through security.

The uniform for this event:  our formal concert attire.  For new students, if your new uniforms are not in by this time, ladies, please wear all black, and men, please wear black slacks and a white collared shirt.

Parent Volunteers/Opportunities

We have several opportunities for parent volunteers in the near future.  If you can serve in one or more of these capacities, please email ASAP.  We will need several parents to make these next several events possible:

1.  Parent volunteers for the Solo and Ensemble invitational on Saturday, March 2.  Responsibilities will range from manning a contest door to organizing snacks.
2.  A graphic designer is needed for compiling the Spring program.  If you enjoy designing artwork or even just typing entries, please let me know ASAP.  All information will be provided.
3.  We are in need of a portable digital projector next Tuesday for the Sight-reading Showcase, if available.  We have a laptop but no projector.  If none is provided we will make due but having one would make it much easier for everyone to see what the students are doing.

Due to the fact that everyone got sick last  week are going to try again.  This Tuesday from 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. Mrs. Nedrow and Mrs. Helton will be sizing all new students for their uniforms.  If you have not been sized for your uniform and/or need to be sized for a new uniform, please  come to the information desk at this time to be sized.

Information Table Attendants:

This week's information table attendants are--

Reminders from last week:

High School Tour Scholarships Available!

This week an anonymous donor has gifted the choir with 4 half-scholarships ($375 per person) for tour.  These scholarships are open to all high school students, those who have paid their initial down-payment and those that have not.  To apply, students should write a short essay (no more than 600 words) on why they would like to go on tour and why they deserve a scholarship.  The student's full name and e-mail address should also be included at the top of the essay.   Essays may be either hand written or typed (we care more about the information than the formatting).

All scholarship essays should be turned in at the information table and are due Tuesday, January 29th.  The COHC board will then review the applications and notify the recipients by February 1st.  As such, we will be extending the tour deadline until 2/5 because we really would like as many choir students to attend as possible.  This should give all students a few more weeks to sell choir ads or apply for the scholarship.  Just think, with this scholarship, tour could cost as little as $375 for a 5-day tour.  That's a great deal!
