News from 12/3


As previously shared--here is the rehearsal and performance schedule for this Friday, December 6, 2013.  The only addition is that Principio will be performing for a group of seniors at the church having a brunch at 10 a.m.  This does not effect their rehearsal times but is just something to take note as it will take place between their times on stage.

10:00-11:00 a.m. Bella Voce
11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Bravo!

Evening Concert--Wear Formal Attire
6:30 p.m. Call Time
7:00 p.m. Concert

And here is the stage schedule (when the students will be on stage rehearsing; they will be in the choir room when not on the stage).

9:00 - 9:30 a.m. Music Experience
9:30-10:00 a.m. Principio
10:00-10:30 a.m. Bella Voce
10:30-11:00 a.m. Combined Rehearsal (Principio, Illuminati, and Bella Voce)
11:00-11:30 a.m. Illuminati

The concert and concert day rehearsal will be at First Methodist Church in downtown Oklahoma City. The address is 131 NW 4th Street. However, you should plan to park in the northeast parking lot accessible off 5th street between Broadway and Robinson and enter via the double doors in that parking lot. The sanctuary will be immediately to your right once you enter via this northeast parking lot entrance. If that parking lot is full, you can always park in the southeast parking lot off 4th street just be sure you take the northeast entrance to the church to access the sanctuary.

A Reminder About Formal Uniforms
Just a reminder from our handbook regarding uniforms--

Bella Voce and Illuminati men: Black pants, white long-sleeved collared shirt and tie (all ordered through the choir) with black belt, socks, and shoes.

Bella Voce and Illuminati women: Formal black dress (ordered through the choir) with black hose and black closed-toed shoes.

Music Experience and Principio boys: Black pants and white short or long-sleeved collared shirt with black belt, socks, and shoes (all self-acquired)

Music Experience and Principio girls: Black pants or skirt (knee-length or below) and white short or long-sleeved collared shirt with black hose and black shoes (self-acquired). Last year’s uniform will also be acceptable.

THIS Saturday Night:  Family Caroling Night

On Saturday, December 7th, we will be having a family caroling night at the Oklahoma City Outlet Mall. This is entirely an optional event but something fun for the whole family to do together. We will meet inside the north entrance of the food course area at 6:30 p.m. to go caroling around the mall. No preparation is needed and song sheets will be provided.  Invite your friends or your neighbors if they want to come too.  What a great way to introduce them to some of the fun families of COHC! We should be done by around 7:15 p.m.  Families are welcome to come early to eat or shop at the mall or just join us for a fun time of singing.  Feel free to dress in your Christmas attire and/or choir shirts.  Oh and as a thank you, the mall will be sharing one free coupon book per family so come on!

What About the Weather?

The weather...can we just pray that the weather man isn't right about this one? LOL. It looks like right now the weather may be hitting us more on Thursday than Friday so we should have a pretty good heads up by then. Just be sure to check your e-mails and the website on Friday morning to confirm our performance status. A good rule of thumb--if OKC Schools and/or Putnam City Schools do not have school we will NOT have rehearsal Friday morning or the concert that night. I will also be on the lookout across the state as we have several students that travel some distance from out of town. We definitely do not want to put our students and families in harms way and will be sure to take that in consideration as we make our final decision.

Should the concert be cancelled due to weather, we will not try to re-schedule the concert during December as the Christmas season gets too crazy to try to work around at this late of date. We will wait until January to reschedule. After all, who says we can't have a Red, White, and Blue Christmas in January? ;) All that to say, let's just pray it isn't as bad as they say and then if it is, be safe. Stay home. And enjoy a nice warm cup of hot cocoa. I insist.  

The same applies on Saturday night. Also, if the temperature is below 40 degrees on Saturday as they say, we will also not meet for caroling as it is an outside event and that is just plain cold!


We DO have rehearsal next Tuesday, December 10th.  During this rehearsal we will be returning music, checking out new music, having a little Christmas party and....we have a special performance from the Okie Dokes Barbershop Quartet who has graciously volunteered to give a free mini-concert from 10:30-11:00 a.m. (although donations will be graciously accepted) in the church sanctuary!  All families are welcome to come and feel free to bring your homeschool friends too as an opportunity to introduce them to the choirs. 

Due to the mini-concert, rehearsal times will be slightly altered as I know almost everyone will want to see this fine group.  The rehearsal times will be as follows:

9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Principio and Music Experience
10:30-11:00  a.m.  Mini-Concert w/ the Okie Dokes
11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.  Bella Voce and Illuminati

There will be no Bravo! rehearsal next Tuesday.

During the rehearsal time there will be a small Christmas party for each group.  Girls/Women are asked to bring a party snack and boys/men are asked to bring a couple of 2 liters of pop.  Paper goods will be provided,  Be sure to bring your music to turn in too!  We want to make sure we start off on the right track in the Spring.

Christmas Sweater Day

Next Tuesday is also our final dress up day of the semester. This time students are invited to dress up in their favorite Christmas attire (sweater, hat, shirt...whatever). Remember, dress up days are completely optional, and are purely a fun activity for the choirs. Do not feel obligated to participate but we look forward to seeing how you dress if you do!

Recruits and the Spring

It's time to start thinking about recruits for the new semester. Invite them to our concert or to our final rehearsal next week so they can start even now checking us out. Our first rehearsal of the new semester will be January 7th. We'd love to have 10 or even 20 new recruits so start spreading the word now that enrollment for the Spring semester is now open. You can find all the information here and direct prospects to the enrollment tab of our website for more information. Note: all current students do not need to re-enroll but will automatically be registered for the Spring unless we have received an email prior to January 7th indicating otherwise.

In addition to the recruiting of choir members to our 4 main choirs, Bravo! will again be holding auditions on January 7th at 10 a.m.  The group has opted to perform at several local venues this next semester instead of taking a trip to Branson as previously thought.  As such, we would like to open up the group to any new recruits for the semester.  The cost for the group is $35 per month and the group meets from 12:15 to 1:00 p.m.  The audition for Bravo! will consist of a choreography audition (the same as last fall); you can also find all the information about the audition on the enrollment page.  There is no need to sign up for an audition time.  All those interested in Bravo! will perform the choreography as a group at 10 a.m. on January 7th.  Those who come prepared should expect to make the group and should plan on staying for the first rehearsal of the new semester at 12:15 p.m.

Choral Fest 2014

Start making plans now to attend next year's Choral Fest on March 8, 2014.  While the Choral Experience portion is optional for all Principio, Illuminati, and Bella Voce students (the Solo and Ensemble portion is expected for all Illuminati and Bella Voce students), it is highly encouraged as where else will you be able to sing under a nationally known clinician with students from all around the state?  It's a very special opportunity that I want everyone to experience if they are able.  You can read all the details about the day on our website and if you would like to register for the event you may go ahead and start doing so today.  Just keep in mind that the cost for the Choral Experience for all COHC members is $55 instead of the $65 for other participants.  So, instead of paying via the traditional link on the Choral Fest page, you may do so in person with Trudi Melson or via the link below.  Deadline for registration and payment is January 10, 2014.

By the way, start spreading the word.  Share with your Co-ops, your friends, and anyone you know who homeschools across the state.  This is a great opportunity for those who would like to be in a choir and can't for one reason or another and it is also great for a music credit for high school students as they will be learning music and performing a concert similar to a semester credit for high school.
