Week 2 Member News--Calendar Info 101

Last week I shared Payment Information 101 and if you missed that post, you can read all about it here.  Just a reminder--directors are NOT to take any money or shirt order forms.  This should all be mailed in or done online.  Having in-betweeners is a great way to get a lost payment or late fee, and we don't want that for your or your kids.

This week is all about the calendar--what to expect and what is expected for each student.  This is definitely Calendar  Information 101.  Thus, if you've been in choir before and think you know it all, feel free to skips this email.  Or if you are just curious or a new member, I highly encourage you to read this anyway.  You just might learn something new!  ;)

First off, if you haven't received a copy of the calendar yet, you may do so here.  It has been brought to my attention that one date (the Spring concert) was shared incorrectly and that date has already been corrected on this calendar and on the website.  However, if you have a paper copy of the calendar you need to know that TUESDAY, May 5th is the concert date NOT WEDNESDAY, May 6th.

August 19-September 3 Fall Registration Window
This week is the final week to accept new registrations.  If you have not registered yet, or you would like to get a friend to join, NEXT WEEK is your last chance.  All registrations must be received by the end of rehearsals on September 3rd.

September 2-3 On Site Uniform Sizing Day
(for Illuminati and Bella Voce only; during rehearsal)
10 to 11:15 a.m. in Oklahoma City and Norman; 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in Edmond
Lynda Nedrow will be heading up all uniform orders.  You are more than welcome to sit in on your child's uniform sizing although it is not necessary if would like to run errands instead.  The choice is up to you.

September 9-10 DRESS UP DAY*-Storybook Hero Day. 
Dress up like your favorite storybook hero.  All dress up days are completely optional but totally fun if you choose to participate.  Parents, if you would like to volunteer to take a picture of those dressed up in your child's choir, please email me a copy.  I'd love to put it on our website and/or facebook page!

September 13 Uniform Sizing Makeup Day at Lynda Nedrow’s House
(3801 E. 32nd St., Edmond; to arrange a time call: 405-630-7691)
This is only for those Bella Voce and/or Illuminati students absent during the September 2/3 initial on-site uniform sizing opportunity.

October 1 Uniform Payments Due
This is for all Bella Voce and Illuminati students ordering a NEW uniform.  The cost is $55 per men's uniform and $70 per women's uniform.  You can pay this online here or mail it in.

October 14-15 DRESS UP DAY*—Team Spirit Day. 
Show your team spirit in what you wear.  Again, all dress up days are completely optional but totally fun if you choose to participate.  Parents, if you would like to volunteer to take a picture of those dressed up in your child's choir, please email me a copy.  I'd love to put it on our website and/or facebook page!

October 28-29 Music Experience and Principio Showcases
Ask your child's teacher for their exact showcase time, but expect the showcase to begin sometime during the second half of your child's regular rehearsal. This showcase is just an opportunity for the Music Experience and Principio students to showoff what they are learning in their class besides the music they will be singing in the December concert.  Yes, they really are learning how to read and feel the music!

November 7 One Day Tour 
One Day Tour is for all Bella Voce and Illuminati Students.  It is a local tour that will begin and end at Grace United Methodist Church in OKC and take place between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.  Each student will be responsible for bringing their own sack lunch.  Putnam City Schools will be providing the bus transportation. We will be looking for a few parent sponsors for this event as the date gets closer.

November 11-12 DRESS UP DAY*--Veteran’s Day. 
Wear something red, white, or blue.  Again, all dress up days are completely optional but totally fun if you choose to participate.  Parents, if you would like to volunteer to take a picture of those dressed up in your child's choir, please email me a copy.  I'd love to put it on our website and/or facebook page!

November 22 Gatti Town Social 
(on NW Expwy in OKC)
This event is still in the planning stage but be looking for more information soon.  This is purely an optional yet fun social event to encourage COHC students and families to get better acquainted.

November 25-26 No rehearsal--Happy Thanksgiving!

December 3 No Monthly Tuition Due This Month--Merry Christmas!
There are 4 payments each semester.  Since August and December are both partial months, August's tuition payment helps to cover December's expenses.  Merry Christmas!

FRIDAY, December 12 Concert Day (Bethel Baptist Church, Norman)

Yes, we realize this will be a travel for some of you, but what goes around, comes around.  In the Spring we will be in Edmond (think--tour in OKC, Concerts in Edmond and Norman...everyone wins).  That said, since there will be some travel involved, here is our tentative schedule for the day so you don't have to spend so much time traveling back and forth.

Also, note that the concert is divided into two parts this year.  Since we are so large, we no longer have room for all four choirs to stand on stage for a combined piece.  As such we are dividing the concert into an elementary portion and a middle/high school portion with a 15 minute intermission.  You will be more than welcome to stay for both segments, but if you have small children and would like to start heading home after their portion is over, you are more than welcome to leave during the intermission.  The choice is yours!

January 30 Oklahoma Homeschool Choral Fest Registration Due 
($60 for non-members, $50 for members)

This is an optional but highly encouraged event for all 3rd through 12th graders.  Read below on March 7th for more information.

January 30, Oklahoma Homeschool Solo & Ensemble Registration Due
(Solo registration on your own; Ensemble registration included in choir tuition)

Every Illuminati and Bella Voce student will be involved in an ensemble for this event.  However, unlike last year, all ensemble fees are now covered in your student's COHC tuition.  COHC students do NOT need to pay anything extra for participation in the Ensemble portion of this event although their participate is expected.

If your student would like to perform a solo at this contest, they will need to register and pay for their solo online along with other outside participants.  This event will take place on March 7th alongside the Choral Fest.

February 10-11 DRESS UP DAY*--Bed Head Day. 
How crazy can your hair get? Show us!  Again, all dress up days are completely optional but totally fun if you choose to participate.  Parents, if you would like to volunteer to take a picture of those dressed up in your child's choir, please email me a copy.  I'd love to put it on our website and/or facebook page!

March 7 Oklahoma Homeschool Choral Fest @ Quail Springs Baptist Church

This is an optional but highly encouraged event for all 3rd through 12th graders as where else can you sing under the direction of a nationally known composer and clinician alongside other homeschool students from all over the state.  Each student participant will receive music and mp3 recordings with their voice parts upon registration.  They will be responsible for learning the 7 pieces on their own through the listening and singing of the mp3s a minimum of 20 times.  They will then rehearse and perform these pieces on March 7th in an mixed ensemble setting under the direction of nationally known Oklahoma native, Cristi Cary Miller.  You can read more about this event here.

This is also the date of the Solo and Ensemble Contest which will take place from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. during the Choral Fest lunch break.  All students participating in both events will be welcome to bring a sack lunch and eat on site.  All other Choral Fest participants will be encouraged to eat off site and come back one the lunch break is over.

March 10-11 DRESS UP DAY*--Retro Wear Day. 
Let the 70s and 80s return.  Again, all dress up days are completely optional but totally fun if you choose to participate.  Parents, if you would like to volunteer to take a picture of those dressed up in your child's choir, please email me a copy.  I'd love to put it on our website and/or facebook page!

March 16-17 No rehearsal—Spring Break!

April 1 Bella Voce and Illuminati Heartland Festival Payment Due ($65)
While this event is expected of all Bella Voce and Illuminati students, it is the only event that is NOT covered by your child's tuition.  See below to see a likely schedule of the day.

April 14-15 DRESS UP DAY*--Land Run Day. 
Round ‘em up with your best Western gear.  Again, all dress up days are completely optional but totally fun if you choose to participate.  Parents, if you would like to volunteer to take a picture of those dressed up in your child's choir, please email me a copy.  I'd love to put it on our website and/or facebook page!

April 18 Bella Voce and Illuminati Heartland Festival Day Tour
This is a national event that just happens to be local.  On this day we will go to an assigned high school auditorium to perform for two nationally known judges.  We will then have lunch ast an area restaurant and spend the afternoon at Frontier City.  We will be competing against other choirs (almost all public and several from other states) for trophies which will be handed out during the awards ceremony at Frontier City at the end of the day.  This event is an all-inclusive package provided by the Heartland Festival, meaning that a student cannot pay a partial payment for the event (i.e. if a student can sing in the morning but not stay for an afternoon at Frontier City, they still must pay for the full package).  Bus transportation for this event will be provided by Putnam City Schools.  Although this year's event will vary slightly depending on the location and time we are assigned by the Heartland Festival, you can expect the day to look something like this....

9:00 a.m. Meet at Grace United Methodist Church
9:30 a.m.   Warm-ups and performances
11:30 a.m. Load buses and head to lunch
12:00 p.m. Lunch at ….
12:45 p.m. Load buses and travel to Frontier City
1:00 p.m. Fun at Frontier City (in parent sponsored groups)
5:30 p.m.        Awards Ceremony at the Crack Axle Canyon Gunfight Stage (in Frontier City)
6:00 p.m.        Load buses and return to Grace United Methodist Church
6:30 p.m. Parents pick up

May 1-2 OCHEC Convention, OKC
No performance but if you choose to attend we’d love it if you’d wear your choir shirt to spread the news!   Also, we will be looking for parent volunteers to help man our booth during the convention as well so be on the lookout in the Spring for a sign-up.  Thanks!

May 5 Final Spring Rehearsal at Concert Site (First Christian Church, Edmond)
(Wear Your Choir T-shirts to rehearsal for group photos!)
See the Christmas concert for the likely schedule and rehearsal times as they will most likely be the same just at a different location.

May 12 End of the Year Picnic and Talent Show
(location TBA)
Again this is a purely optional yet fun social event to encourage COHC students and families to get better acquainted.  More information coming soon.
